Dodge begins a metamorphosis of sorts for the 2023 model year. The brand moves away from its storied reputation as a muscle car manufacturer and toward an electric future, including a new small crossover, the 2023 Dodge Hornet. The 2023 Dodge lineup in Michigan includes three other models: the Challenger, Charger, and Durango SRT Hellcat.
To honor the changes, Dodge will launch several variants of its muscle cars, including a Challenger convertible and several limited-edition models that will be allocated to specially selected dealerships. Let’s examine the new Dodge lineup for 2023.
The 2023 Dodge Challenger is a two-door muscle car built for speed. It features retro styling and incredible performance. This year marks the end of the Challenger’s current platform, possibly in favor of an electric powertrain. Changes for 2023 include exclusive commemorative plaques under the hood. The Challenger also sees the return of colors that were past favorites, including B5 Blue, Plum Crazy, and Sublime Green. The R/T models come with a “345” badge on the front fender that pays homage to the Hemi V8 engine. Seven special edition models will be offered; the first is called the Shakedown, which is limited to 1000 units.
The 2023 Dodge Charger is a four-door muscle car with a powerful engine and the latest technology features. The base 3.6-liter V6 engine puts out 292 hp and 260 lb-ft, connected to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Charger is rumored to lose the V8 units after this model year, possibly transforming into an electric vehicle. Like the Challenger, the Charger gets seven special edition models, a commemorative plaque, and the same heritage colors.
The 2023 Dodge Durango is a three-row SUV with powerful looks. The base 3.6-liter V6 engine develops 295 hp and 260 lb-ft, matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Two V8s are on offer. The Durango is largely a carryover from the 2022 model, with one exception: the performance-oriented Durango SRT Hellcat returns, expanding the lineup to six trims. The Hellcat is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that generates 710 hp and 645 lb-ft, teamed to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Production will be limited.
The Dodge Hornet is all-new for 2023. This small crossover shares a platform with the Alfa Romeo Tonale. It comes in GT and R/T trims. The GT is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 265 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard. The R/T is a plug-in hybrid that utilizes a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 90-kW motor. This hybrid powertrain produces a total of 285 hp and 383 lb-ft. The transmission is a six-speed automatic, and rear-wheel drive is standard.
